You make the call

Suppose you want to help promote the use of open-source and related open technologies to support educators in their vital mission, and you wonder which widely-available Linux distribution looks most promising. You visit the web sites of three of the obvious contenders:

Novell

RedHat

Ubuntu

and ask of each questions like these:

  • Is it clear these folks do Linux?
  • Is this a company or a community?
  • Will it be fun to work with these folks?
  • Will they be around for the long-haul?
  • Will they help me learn more about Linux?
  • What level of support do they offer? How much can I get for free? How soon will I be asked to pay for support?

You make your call.

I have made mine, and you’ll be hearing more about it in soon.
