Suppose you want to help promote the use of open-source and related open technologies to support educators in their vital mission, and you wonder which widely-available Linux distribution looks most promising. You visit the web sites of three of the obvious contenders:
and ask of each questions like these:
- Is it clear these folks do Linux?
- Is this a company or a community?
- Will it be fun to work with these folks?
- Will they be around for the long-haul?
- Will they help me learn more about Linux?
- What level of support do they offer? How much can I get for free? How soon will I be asked to pay for support?
You make your call.
I have made mine, and you’ll be hearing more about it in soon.

I’m going to go out on a limb and bet we don’t have a corporate agreement with the one you picked. 😉 Even when I add in a few other distros websites to that list and ask the same questions, I come back to the same answer. Any wonder that’s the distro installed on my corporate issue thinkpad?
