The DOS and Windows ports of SPITBOL are now available on the SPITBOL Downloads section
The DOS version is S.COM. This is 16-bit 8086 version and can be run under Linux using the package ‘dosqemu.’
The Windows version is SPITBOL-3.7-win.exe. This is 32-bit version and can be run under Linux using Wine. You also need to download 32RTM.exe to run this program. I don’t know why. I just know SPITBOL complains if it is not present.
These are the *only* executable versions of SPITBOL at hand. S.COM dates back to 1983. SPITBOL.exe was last updated a decade or so ago.
Both are as fast as the wind, and a Linux version should be available shortly. 🙂

Thanks for making this available to Windows and Sparc users.
As you are porting to Linux, will you consider potential BSD users? Particularly NetBSD. I will happily test it on all of the BSD’s.
What do you think of running SPITBOL on Hercules?
Doing Linux now, ports to other distros should not be hard. SPITBOL/360 runs natively, and I’m told it can be run in Linux using Hercules.
What has happened to the Linux version of SPITBOL?
I’m back working on it. See recent post.
Has this bliog died? last entry appears to eb 2009. I am interested in getting hold of Spitbolon MAc and had seen a post it was due RSN, but cannot find it anywhere. Its alsmost as if the Spitbol world stopped in 2009.
I took a ‘software sabbatical’, that is a holiday away from programming, starting in early September 1999. I’m now back, and have resumed work on Spitbol for Linux. See
https://github.com/daveshields/spitbol-linux
The code should be up in a week or so.
Glad to see you back. Looking forward to the mac version in the meantime I will try the windows or now the linux version.
Blog, inactive for almost three years, is now back. Spitbol for Linux should be out soon.
I downloaded the windows version and ran it, but it just flicked open and closed a dos box and that was it. Can’t find any executable, just the download file. I am using Win 7.
