Judith Dunford, sister of Jack Schwartz, kindly posted two comments to the blog, which I reproduce here:
I had mentioned that I never knew what Jack’s middle initial, T., stood for, to which Judith commented:
T stood for Theodore. My mother was a big Zionist in her youth and named him for Theodore Herzel. He became Jacob T when her father Jacob Kurzbart died shortly before Jack was born.
Judith also wrote:
I just stumbled across this — thanks. I’m Jack’s sister and of course touched and happy to see any and all evidence of my brother’s brilliance. There’s going to be a memorial service for Jack at Courant on March 27th, 7 pm, if you’d like to come.
My wife Karin and I have already made plans to attend the memorial service.
The comment before Judith’s came from Jeanine Meyer, another friend and colleague from NYU and CIMS. She is now a professor at Suny Purchase:
Dave, thank you for your part in the obituary. It did capture much? some? of Jack’s depth and breadth. I worked with him on a project involving computer music for middle school students in NYC. This was after doing a thesis for him on GYVE. I wonder how many of us would rank him the smartest person we know.
