Baby It’s Cold Outside

I’m humming a melody as I write this on my back porch, using a small space heater to keep my hands warm as I use the keyboard.

I’ve enjoyed the warmest fall in the Northeast since I moved to New York over forty years ago, and have thus been able to work on my back porch every day since April.

But those days are coming to an end:

Baby, It's Cold Outside
Baby It’s Cold Outside

I’m humming the melody for the song Baby It’s Cold Outside lyrics, (with some slight editing on my part):

I really can’t stay – Baby it’s cold outside
I’ve got to go away – Baby it’s cold outside
This evening summer has been fun – Been hoping that you’d drop in
So very nice – I’ll hold your hands, they’re just like ice
My mother wife will start to worry – Beautiful, what’s your hurry
My father poodle will be pacing the floor – Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I’d better scurry – Beautiful, please don’t hurry
well Maybe just a half a drink beer more – Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think – Baby, it’s bad out there
Say, what’s in this drink beer – No cabs to be had out there

Ahh, but it’s cold outside

Baby it’s cold outside

Brr its cold…. It’s cold out there

The photo shows the backpack that I use to carry my portable office. I carry along several of The Tuxers when I travel, and frequently let them our for a breath of fresh air while I work. Note that the tiny Tuxer on the right is looking at the space heater I use to keep my hands warm.

I know the Tuxers can read. They can also program, as I demonstrated in my post Message from The Tuxers: Think, Dave! Don’t Use Windows!. I’m sure they are silently laughing as they read this post, wondering why I’m complaining about being cold when the temperature is over 40 degrees. They only think it is cold when the temperature is forty degrees below zero.

The cup on the left was a present from my wife, to remind me that I should try to play golf from time to time.

The screen shows the current weather for Chappaqua (while running Ubuntu) courtesy of I prefer since it is powered by Linux.

However, I have found that working on the back porch is similar to playing golf in that both lose their fun when the temperature is near or below forty degrees.

It is cold outside!
