I gave a presentation on Open Technology — the combination of open source, open standards, open content, open data formats, and such — to a group of educators and librarians yesterday in Litchfield, CT: Open Technology Solutions for K-12 Education.
Thanks to Ed Edelson and the staff of of EducationConnection for making all the arrangements.
It was my first major presentation about this topic in the K-12 space, so it took some time to put it together, which explains in part why there have been so few blog posts these past few weeks. I kept track of interesting URL’s as I came across them in the course of putting the presentation together, and about a 100 or so can be found in the Resources section at the end of the presentation. Some folks have already mentioned they find them interesting to browse.
About thirty people were present for the talk and it was generally well-received. I had a lot of fun putting it together and will be writing more about it in future posts. I also look forward to reporting on some of the results that I hope will come from working with some of the people I met yesterday.

You did a great job of summarizing a complex topic with real implications for our future workforce competitiveness. Our education system is beset with so many diverse pressures it is sometimes a marvel that it works at all.
The staff at Education Connection clearly sees the potential of Open Technology to be the enabler to providing enhanced learning/teaching approaches. However, we also recognize that without the commitment and involvement of the wider community (teachers, school administration, parents and business) the changes we would like to see will not happen. Thanks to folks like you who are willing to get involved, I am optimistic.
