I just started a new group at LinkedIN: Highland High School, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
I graduated in 1962. It was a great school. I have many fond memories from my days there.
I earlier attended Bandelier Elementary and Woodrow Wilson Junior High.
My mother was a single parent and I enjoyed school, so I didn’t miss a day of school from the start of third grade until one or two years into graduate school. I wish I still had all those “perfect attendance” certificates.
By the way, I will be in ABQ around June 20th for the wedding of a son of a close friend, and so would appreciate hearing from any HHS alums. You can do so by posting a comment to this post, which will give me your email address.

Hi Dave, I would have been in the Class of 62 at HHS but transferred in my Senior year to Manzano. I lived a block from Bandelier, and went to Woodrow Wilson Jr. High before two years at HHS.
Forgive me, but I don’t remember you. Maybe we knew some of the same people?

Hi David -
I don’t communicate very well on the classmates site – I’m not a paying member.
So many years with “Big Blue” – good for you! I spent 19 years (1967-1986) with Control Data Corp here in Albuquerque. When their future began to dim, I bailed out and went to work for Cray Research, Inc as a hardware tech specialist (1986-1995). When they went down I was laid off – took me forever to find another job. Finally hit bottom by getting hired by the US Postal Service as an Electronic Technician. Worst job of all, but best benefits of all and the pay was close to my Cray salary. I retired March 1st, so am just now trying to get used to this new life style.

Hi there Dave – I’m just doing a bit of “nostalgia surfing” and happy I found your web page. If my family had stayed in Albuquerque (we lived on the corner of Pershing & Carlisle) I would have graduated Wilson Junior HS in 1963. My older sister graduated Highland HS (Class of ‘62) and right after that, the family moved to Sacramento, CA . Those that I fondly remember from Wilson are, Dave Roberts, Sherry Coe, Liza Bell & Myles Shore. I really have to laugh when I think about one particular memory of when Winrock Shopping Center first opened and we could go in the record store and listen to our favortie 45’s in their “sound booths”. Now, that was technology. Thanks again, Dave.
Dave replies:
Pam,
Thanks for sharing the memories. I can almost place Pershing and Carlisle. I also have fond memories of WW JHS. My wife and I were there during a visit to ABQ in June. The only person in the building then was a fellow graduate of Bandelier, WW JDS and Highland! She is now a teacher there. What I found most interesting was the change in the neighborhood. I can recall riding my bike to WW across almost a half-mile or more of open road, especially one day in March when the winds were up and the tumbleweeds almost knocked me off my bike. The area is now completely developed. Moreover, it became one of the poorest neighborhoods in ABQ and has only started the process of gentrification. I also recall Winrock fondly, esp. seeing “Lawrence of Arabia” when it opened, at a time when Joe Abouzelman, former manager of the Hiland Theater, was the manager.
I don’t recall the names you mention save Miles Shore, which rings a small bell.
